World of Style: Jessica Raiter

One could take a lesson in modern elegance simply by sitting in Jessica Raiter’s living room for even a short amount of time. Beyond her genuine hospitality, her home is thoughtfully curated, subtle but with a striking edge, classic and ultra feminine and speaks volumes about her style and how she moves through the world in general. As fashion director of 11 Honoré and with a lengthy career in retail and personal styling, Raiter’s natural ability to make spaces and people look their best comes through in each one of her carefully considered decisions, whether that be plucking the perfect piece from a designer collection for the website or the right chair and painting for her home.

Honing her eye in high end retail, most notably at legendary Soho boutique Bagutta which stocked the work of the seminal designers of the time including, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Olivier Theyskens and Ann Demeulemeester, Raiter gained skill and appreciation for the craftsmanship, fit, and technical artistry of designer clothes.

She took that knowledge to the wholesale team at Lanvin, where she says she loved imparting the Lanvin legacy and sharing then creative director Albers Elbaz’ vision for the season. Next it was onto The Real Real where she helped women edit their wardrobes and make space in their closets, homes and minds. It’s also the job where she met 11 Honoré’s director of client services, Katie Murphy.

But Raiter’s interest in making things their most beautiful started long before she became familiar with the seasonal fashion calendar.

Her love of fashion started early, specifically due to her stylish Ukrainian mother and grandmother. “I didn’t realize it was ‘fashion’,” says Raiter. “I just loved how fabulous they always looked.”

“A well-dressed woman is the ultimate powerhouse.”

She imparts the joy and fulfillment she gains from dressing well onto each client she works with and looks at designer collections through the lens of how each piece might empower the woman buying it.

“A well-dressed woman is the ultimate powerhouse,” says Raiter. “My biggest takeaway from many years in fashion: ALL women, regardless of age or size, go through the same daily spiral of insecurities when trying to get dressed. The answer: a wardrobe of well-fitting clothes which suit your lifestyle. Having a few go-to day and evening outfits saved in your photos and that are updated seasonally, makes it easy to get dressed without getting stressed and allows us to conquer the hundreds of things we manage to do in a day.”

Her proudest fashion accomplishment is by far being a part of the changes 11 Honoré is making within the industry. She has been at the helm of working with the more-than-80 designers on the site who are extending their size offerings for the first time. “It’s happened at a lightning speed,” Raiter says of the progress 11 Honoré is making, “which goes to show that change is possible.”
