What To Wear: New Year’s Eve

What To Wear: New Year’s Eve

by Liz Black

If there’s any night to really go all out, New Year’s Eve is it. And with this one kicking off a brand new decade, then it’s really worth celebrating in style. But sometimes it’s hard to decide what to wear, especially when it’s this special of an occasion. Our resolution is for you to not have any sartorial stress, so read on to see our recommendations for what to wear to every type of New Year’s Eve event for ringing in 2020.

Dance Party

If you’re about to dance the night away then you might be feeling footwear-focused, but you definitely can’t slack on the rest of your look. You need something special to shimmy in as you break it down on the dance floor, so stick with a less-fitted silhouette that won’t restrict your moves.

House Party

One of the best ways to ring in the new year is spending time with some of your favorite people at a house party. More relaxed than a ticketed event, but more fancy than staying in snuggled in your PJs, it’s the perfect blend of casual and classy, and your outfit needs to reflect that. Slip on skinny jeans or leather leggings and add a sequined T-shirt or crystal-embellished top. Playing hostess? Then amp up your look with something extra in the form of a shimmering sequin dress or two-piece set.

Fancy-Schmancy Black Tie Event

Since we’re about to embark into the new roaring 20s, there’s a high possibility you’ll get invited to a Great Gatsby themed party or a similarly-fancy formal New Year’s Eve event. There’s one easy rule with Black Tie dressing — floor-length or bust. Whether covered in sequins or just a hint of sparkle, any one of these fashion-forward frocks will be the perfect pick to start the year off right.

Relaxed at Home

If you’ve never experienced FOMO, then chances are high you’re celebrating the New Year by watching the ball drop from the comfort of your couch. But comfy can still be chic with the right relaxed pieces, like a laid-back tie-dyed set, practical stretchy leggings, or a bit of lacy lingerie for a private party at home.
