Siri Kaur

The Artist Turns her Lens Toward the Occult Community of Los Angeles in her new show, She Tells All.

With the exception of a rare overcast afternoon, the golden light of Los Angeles drenches the home and office belonging to artist and photographer Siri Kaur each day. Situated in the hills of Silverlake, Kaur basks in the brilliant sun not unlike the subjects she shoots throughout the city and who appear in her work.

The artist, who has lived in LA for over a decade, has long investigated issues of personal representation and identity. Her 2014 show, This Kind of Face, focused on celebrity impersonators, playing on the idea of our pop culture-fueled society and as Kaur puts it, “media-saturated imagination.”

Her latest work, She Tells All, opens October 31st at the Eric Buterbaugh Gallery in West Hollywood and explores the eclectic occult community of Los Angeles including witches, healers and psychics. From the flickering neon signs of clairvoyants positioned in storefront windows to portraits of occult practitioners sitting among their magical objects of healing and power, Kaur is able to capture the mystical presence of each person in the context of the brilliant light and hyper material nature of Los Angeles.

As an artist who is constantly on the search for beauty, even in the most unexpected of places, it comes as no surprise that Kaur appreciates beautiful clothing and the talent of skilled designers from all over the world.

Here, she wears several of her favorite labels and looks for fall, some brand new to 11 Honoré including Dolce & Gabbana, Ganni and Mary Katrantzou.
