How I Wear It: Animal Print 101

How I Wear It: Animal Print 101

by Melissa Magsaysay

11 Honoré Design Director, Danielle Williams Eke Wore Animal Print Every Day for a Week and Made it Look Completely Effortless.

As far as we’re concerned, animal print is a neutral. Sure, it’s bold, statement-making, and punctuates denim with its graphic pattern and contrasting tan and black pattern, but the ubiquitous print is a perennial favorite among the most stylish women who wear it as easily to the gym as they do the red carpet.

11 Honoré’s design director, Danielle Williams Eke, works animal print into her wardrobe on a weekly (if not daily) basis and always pulls it off with ease. “My personal style is a little of everything,” she says, “Modern, easy, comfortable, a little edge and with a twist.”

Williams Eke wore a piece of animal print for a week straight, styling it to transition from important design meetings to a weekend-ready ensemble. Exhibiting her own personal style and penchant for accessories, she shares her love for the print, plus gives styling and fit tips for every look.

In my everyday life, I like to keep it pretty laid back, so this is the perfect dress for a night out. And because I’m not super busty, I love a little sexy element like the keyhole.

Styling Tip:

This dress has so much drama with the keyhole, belt and hem detail, pairing it with a simple shoe is all you need to complete your look.

These pants are drama! I love how wide and flowy these pants are and the Rachel Comey blouse is an easy wardrobe staple that works easily into my existing wardrobe

Styling Tip:

The pants have a high waist, so “French tuck” your blouse or wear them with a Mara Hoffman bodysuit.

For me, it's all about the details. The seaming detail on the Altuzarra coat as well as the finishings are impeccable. Nicholas elevated a typical button front blouse by adding a contrast placket and thoughtful gold trim buttons.

Styling Tip:

I liked adding a little grunge to this otherwise refined look by pairing it with combat boots and destructed boyfriend jeans.

This Veronica Beard dress hugs in all of the right places. The cinching detail with the slit is so on-trend right now and the Fleur du Mal silk trench is so luxe and the perfect layering piece.

Styling Tip:

This dress is so amazing that it doesn't even need to be layered depending on the weather. A simple shoe or boot is all that's needed to complete the look.

These are true wardrobe staples: a button-front shirt, black jeans, and a moto jacket. The leopard print is what adds the element of fun to the otherwise classic look.

Styling Tip:

I always love adding an unexpected pop of color, be it through a handbag, shoes or jewelry.

I don't usually gravitate towards silhouettes like this, but the leopard print gives it some edge. I love the mix.

Styling Tip:

I love the deep V neck on the blouse and layered a lace bralette for coverage and a little texture

Athleisure is in my weekly style rotation, so this is something that I would normally wear when running around the fashion district to factories or on the weekends.

Styling Tip:

Pair it with your favorite sneakers and layer with a coat or moto jacket that adds a pop of color.
