Bold, Bright Prints to Perk Up Your Week

Sweats and anything sweats adjacent certainly feel like the sartorial manifestation of how most people are feeling at the present time. The need for comfort and predictability, of which sweats have in spades, is well understood. But peppering in prints whether in a sweatsuit, effortless spring dress or lightweight blouse can still maintain the comfort we’re all seeking while also lifting our spirits in a much needed way.

11 Honoré’s VP of client services, Katie Murphy embraces print whether that’s on a t-shirt or evening gown and offers her best advice on how to wear the season’s strongest patterns.

“Bold prints are more wearable than you think,” says Murphy. “For me, wearing prints is fun and uplifting. As we begin to emerge from this pandemic, I think we will all be focusing more on things that make us happy and feel good.”

How to Wear Print

Wearing bold prints does not have to be over complicated. Murphy’s general rule is balance. “At this point animal print is pretty much a neutral, but to enhance this “printed neutral” I balance it with a pop of color,” she says. “I love to pair it with bright red, fuschia and cobalt, but I’m now playing around with softer colors like blush and other pastels.”

Part of balancing prints can also entail mixing textures, says Murphy. “If I am wearing a soft silk feminine dress, like this Adam Lippes polka dot piece, then I would pair it with the more structured Veda cropped leather jacket.”

WLastly, Murphy advises, “when it comes to florals, it’s about either keeping the print simple, clean and basic. Let the print stand alone (pair with jeans or solid color skirt) or go big or go home. I love the idea of inverted colors to pair with this chic yellow Carolina Herrera top. I would pick out a color in this print and find a pencil skirt to pair back to.”
