Gala Worthy Gowns

Gala Worthy Gowns

by Melissa Magsaysay

The Met Gala ceased to be a fashion-insiders-only event once the documentary “The First Monday in May” debuted in 2016. The film gave a glimpse into the planning, politics and sometimes petty details of what producing the fashion industry’s insanely glamorous “prom” is really like.

Since the documentary, more and more people are interested in the Met Gala arrivals and anticipate the theme that dictates the dress code, however the A list celebrities, supermodels and moguls might interpret it.

This year is “Notes on Camp” inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay of the same name and one sure to bring out, at the very least, fashion with a gleaming, glitzy capital F.

Sontag once explained to the Partisan Review that "The essence of Camp is its love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”

It certainly describes what fashion feels like today. From the wonderfully outrageous vibe at Gucci to pretty much anything Lady Gaga (one of the hosts of this year’s Met Gala) wears, camp may seem far fetched for the everyday, but most of us have already adopted it into what we love to wear.

Here are 9 Met Gala worthy dresses that would make a statement at any upcoming event or just inject a little “camp” into your daily look.
