How to Wear White this Fall

How to Wear White this Fall

by Melissa Magsaysay

Wondering how to wear white this fall? This style expert has you covered.

Wearing white after Labor Day has traditionally been a sartorial sin, but the “rule” couldn’t be more antiquated. In fact, white, winter white, autumnal cream and ivory, are the freshest hues to wear as the weather starts to cool down. The palette is clean, modern and a bit unexpected and looks especially great right now as a monochromatic ensemble.

“I say ditch the rules of no white after Labor Day,” says 11 Honoré’s design director, Danielle Williams Eke.  “With seasonality shifting (due to global warming) summer weather extends well past Labor Day and so should wearing white.”

She continues that off white, winter white and cream were shown all over the fall/winter 2020 runways, mostly in head-to-toe monochromatic looks.

“Mix and match your white tones to create a chic and modern look,” adds Williams Eke.

Wearing all white looks particularly chic in the casual category including sweats, sweat suits, luxe loungewear and easy to throw on dresses that transition perfectly into fall.

Try the Logo sweatshirt and matching Logo sweatpant from Lna for a head-to-toe sweat suit that would pair well with sneakers that bring a pop of color. The 11 Honoré Collection’s Lexi sweatpant and Gia sweatshirt in off-white have a creamier hue to add a richness to even the most comfortable look. This set could be worn under a classic trench coat and with some polished loafers or mules and have you instantly ready for a meeting or slightly dressier outing.

When not wearing sweats, Williams Eke suggests a perfectly classic combo.

There is no better combo to me than white and indigo denim,” says the designer. “Pair your white T-shirt or blazer with denim for a classic laidback look.”

The Derek Lam Rodeo double breasted blazer with sailor buttons makes a striking contrast when worn with dark jeans or back to the matching cropped flare trouser. For a slightly more relaxed 90s look, try the RTA double breasted blazer and wear them with Good Legs cropped white jeans from Good American.
